A Dream Vacation Resort in the North Carolina Mountains

By Glenn Arnette, lll

Without a doubt, the Highland Lake Inn, located just outside of Hendersonville, North Carolina is the perfect place for a family vacation, a business retreat, weddings, special event, banquets and so much more. Located on 26 wooded acres on a 40 acre Lake, there is nothing more beautiful than this Blue Ridge Mountain Resort in the great state of North Carolina. They offer everything from Cozy Cabin rooms to historic Lodge Rooms including the Woodward House and wonderful vacation homes. It is a paradise for anyone seeking the tranquility of the mountains, Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

On my arrival we were greeted by a young man named Austin Herold at the front desk. Not knowing what to expect, we were given the royal tour of information and never had to question any of his suggestions. When we got to our room, we found every amenity one should expect in a very upscale resort. It was quiet and beautifully appointed with a little “posh” on the side!

After looking around the property seeing all of the vacation entertainment possibilities, we headed back to the room to dress for dinner.

Now, get ready!

Seasons is an award-winning restaurant and offers just about everything one can imagine in quality food. We were greeted on arrival by Kim Smith, the Guest Services Manager and Marlena Ownbey, the Restaurant Manager and escorted to a beautifully prepared window table on the glass porch. With the menu in hand we discovered an array of foods available for our dining pleasure. From specialty fish items to the finest in steaks, you will never leave without knowing that you have had a real dining experience. From the finest wines, excellent employees, to a chef that truly knows his business and can rival Gordon Ramsey, Seasons is a rare treasure with a rare leader.

Peter Fassbender is the Executive Chef and comes to Seasons from Chile and other major cities from around the world. He is a Chef graduate of the Instituto de Los Andes in Chilie and awarded the Grand Diploma from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. He not only is a brilliant Chef, he is a very personable man and that makes him special to the operation of the Highland Lake Inn.

You must enjoy one of the great Country Buffet Breakfast while staying there. From country ham, cheese grits, crispy bacon, biscuits and sausage gray to delicious pancakes and oatmeal with peaches, apricots and mission figs, this is just the beginning of your morning. As one man states, “The plate is just not big enough!”

With 100 years under its belt, the Highland Lake Inn is considered a grandfather of vacations. There is no other place that can offer the special qualities of this property.

When I say it is a jewel in the North Carolina Mountains, you know I expect you to consider it for your next outing. This is an exceptional vacation opportunity at a reasonable price. By-the-way the kids will thank you for the experience as well.
